The Kano State Judicial Commission of Inquiry tasked with investigating destruction of public property during the recent #EndHunger Protests has sought the support of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Daily News 24 reports that the panel headed by its chairman, Justice Lawan W. Mahmoud (retired) visited the NSCDC command headquarters in Kano on Thursday, according to Corps’ spokesperson SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi.
In his address, Justice Mahmoud described the NSCDC as an important stakeholder in providing security particularly in protecting public utilities.
“Your men contributed immensely during the protest by safeguarding public and individuals properties.
“We are here therefore to seek for your advice for us to be able to successfully execute our terms of reference, as we’re tasked by the kano state government”, he said.
The Kano State Commission of Inquiry into cases of breach of peace, destruction of properties, looting, arson and killing during the 1st August, 2024 protests visited commandant Mohammed Lawal Falala, fcna at the state command headquarters, Kano.
In his response, Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Falala warmly welcomed the panel members, assuring them of the corps readiness in assisting the commission to achieve its objectives.

“As a key stakeholder and lead agency in the protection of critical national assets we will always be available in collaborating with this commission to successfully meet its terms of reference”, he pledged.
The state commandant further revealed that, the NSCDC played a pivotal role during the protest by arresting a large number of hoodlums who vandalized and stole public property.
“A written document, as requested for by the commission of inquiry of the role played and recoveries made by NSCDC during the protests, was submitted to the commission by the state commandant,” SC Abdullahi said.
