The Federal Government has concluded plans to sell 50kg bags of rice at N40,000 each to public servants, aiming to alleviate the ongoing food crisis in the nation.

This initiative was detailed in a letter from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, signed by the Director of Human Resources, Jaiyesimi Abimbola.

Public servants interested in purchasing the rice are required to complete a Google form available on the OHCSF website and submit it to the Director of Human Resources for endorsement. The letter emphasized that the payment and distribution of the rice would be managed by designated offices, with the chairman of the Joint Union Council serving as an observer to ensure transparency.

The letter stated, “As part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the current food crisis in the country and its effects on the general population, I am directed to inform you that 50kg bags of rice will be sold at a subsidised rate of N40,000 only per bag to interested public servants in Abuja.”

The circular also noted, “Each staff is only entitled to purchase one bag. Two or more staff may also jointly pay for a bag for sharing among themselves.”

Recently, the government established centers nationwide where Nigerians can buy 50kg bags of rice for N40,000.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, highlighted this as one of several initiatives by the Tinubu administration to improve living conditions for citizens.
