Russian President Vladimir Putin has made the decision to attend the BRICS Summit.

Instead opting for video conferencing, as reported by Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

The summit, which brings together the leaders of the BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – will see Putin’s active participation despite the virtual format.

Kremlin spokesperson Dimitry Peskov confirmed Putin’s plan, stating, “Putin decided to participate in the BRICS summit via videoconferencing; it will be a full-fledged participation.” Additionally, Peskov mentioned that Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, will physically attend the summit on behalf of Russia.

BRICS, an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, represents a collective of economies collaborating on economic, political, and social issues to promote cooperation and mutual development.
