Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are the two most sought-after talents in world football at the moment, and their futures could be decided very soon.

Real Madrid still sees both players as a perfect fit for their project at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, but decisions have to be made now as they look to build their squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The Spanish club know that they may have to wait another season to bring in Haaland, and many other sides are also circling, but in the case of Mbappe it’s a case of hoping he doesn’t negotiate a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain.

Haaland looks set to make a decision this month, while things have slowed down with Mbappe due to Real Madrid and PSG’s upcoming clash in the Champions League round of 16. Nothing has changed with Mbappe, though, as both he and Real Madrid want the move to happen when his contract expires this summer, despite the pressure coming from PSG and the player’s entourage. But, it’s unlikely an announcement would come around this huge continental tie.

Real Madrid hasn’t been put off by news that PSG will keep trying to extend Mbappe’s contract by a further two years. They know Frenchman wants the move and are confident nothing has changed and that it will happen.

Haaland certainly has his admirers in Spain, as both Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to fight it out for the signature of the towering striker, who has averaged a goal per game over the last two years in the Bundesliga.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is determined that Haaland will never wear a Real Madrid shirt, but his club’s current financial difficulties could hold them back from signing the young striker.

In order to bring in Erling Haaland, Real Madrid or Barcelona will need to put aside around 350 million euros.

This figure includes the 75m euros needed to activate his release clause, as well as commissions paid to his agent Mino Raiola and his father and the salary that would be paid to the player over six years. (AF)
