The House of Representatives on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
This followed the approval of the report by the adhoc committee that screened Oluyede on Wednesday.

Oluyede had initially been appointed in an acting capacity by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the death of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. Following the acting appointment, President Tinubu forwarded Oluyede’s name to the National Assembly for formal screening and confirmation.
Chairman of the adhoc committee, Babajimi Benson, presented the report to the House, noting that the committee had thoroughly reviewed Oluyede’s curriculum vitae, asked him questions on national security matters, and found that he provided strong and satisfactory responses.
“The committee was satisfied with his experience and capacity to occupy the office of COAS,” Benson said, adding that Oluyede had given a good account of himself during the screening. Based on these findings, the committee recommended the confirmation of his appointment.
Following a clause-by-clause consideration of the report, the House unanimously approved Oluyede’s appointment through a voice vote.
