Residents of Na’ibawa Eastern Bypass in Sabuwar Abuja Quarters, Kano State, have voiced their frustrations over a prolonged power outage that has disrupted socio-economic activities in the area for nearly a year.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Ahmed Abdurrahman, one of the residents, described the situation as dire, noting that it has lasted for 10 months.

“This is the 10th month we are experiencing a power outage, and it seems nobody is bothered about our problem,” he said.

The crisis reportedly began after the community’s transformer became faulty. Although the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) later provided a replacement, residents were asked to contribute approximately N2 million as reconnection fees.

“How can the company ask us to contribute such an amount of money when people are already struggling to feed themselves?” Abdurrahman lamented.

Another resident, Sani Mohammad, called on the state government to step in, emphasizing the community’s inability to raise the required funds. “We have been appealing to people to contribute the money, but the response has been poor. We are now calling on Governor Abba Yusuf to come to our aid and restore power supply to our area,” he pleaded.

Efforts to contact KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Sani, were unsuccessful, as calls made to him went unanswered.
