The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has given approval for the pre-clinical accreditation of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Rhema University, Aba.
This is contained in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Earl Okezie, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia, on Thursday.
Okezie stated that the news was conveyed to the institution in a letter signed by the council’s Registrar, Dr Tajudeen Sanusi.
The statement added that the approval was sequel to the report of the council’s accreditation team that visited the university on Oct. 13.
It quoted the registrar to have stated that “with this approval, Rhema University College of Health Sciences can now proceed to conduct examinations in Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology”.
It added that the university could also conduct Part 1 Professional – second MB examinations.
In a reaction, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ogbonnaya Onwudike, reportedly thanked the council for the accreditation.
According to Onwudike, this milestone calls for more work as this is just one of the many accreditation visits to be carried out in the university by the council.
The Provost of the college, Prof. Madu Awa, lauded the development.
Awa said that the university was poised to produce medical doctors, who could compete favourably with the best in the field of medical sciences across the world.
NAN reports that Rhema University is a private institution established in 2010 in the commercial nerve center of Abia.
