Kano State’s Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, has announced the heartbreaking passing of his 15-year-old son, Sadiq Modibbo Bature, who succumbed to complications following a bone marrow transplant surgery in India.

Sadiq had been battling sickle cell anaemia since birth and underwent the transplant in hopes of improving his health. Tragically, just days after the procedure, he experienced post-surgery complications that affected his brain, leading to his untimely death.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sanusi Bature described his son as a “bright and well-behaved young boy” who faced a lifetime of challenges due to his condition. “Throughout his life, Modibbo has suffered from sickle cell anaemia and underwent a successful bone marrow transplant this month in an Indian hospital. Unfortunately, he died as a result of post-surgery complications in his brain,” he lamented.

The grieving father revealed that Sadiq’s body would be returned to Nigeria for burial in accordance with Islamic rites in his hometown, Dawakin-Tofa. “The body of our beloved Saddiku would be brought back home in a few days for burial. The date and time will be announced upon the arrival of his remains,” he added.

As the community mourns the loss, sympathies and tributes continue to pour in for Sanusi Bature. Mukhtar Yahya Usman expressed his condolences on Facebook, stating, “I extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family on the heartbreaking loss of your beloved son, Sadiq (Modibbo) Bature. This is truly a profound and painful loss, and I am deeply saddened by the news.”

He reflected on Sadiq’s resilience, noting, “Sadiq, with his bright spirit and obedient nature, faced the trials of life with immense courage and grace.”

Hamza Ibrahim Baba also shared a tribute, writing, “This is to announce the death of our son Sadiq Modibbo—the eldest son of Sanusi Bature D-Tofa—in far away India after undergoing a bone marrow transplant. May the Almighty Allah SWT forgive him and accept his SHAHADA. May Aljannat Alfirdaus be his final abode. Alhaji Sanusi and Hajiya Aminatu, please take heart. May Allah reward you for all you have done for him and your efforts to save his life.”

Sadiq is expected to be laid to rest according to Islamic traditions in Dawakin Tofa this coming weekend.
