The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a strictly conservative Muslim nation and the heart of the Islamic faith has officially joined the 2024 Miss Universe Beauty contest set to hold in the South American nation of Brazil.
Daily News 24 reports that Saudi Arabia, where the the two holiest mosques– the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) mosque in Medina are located, has never participated in beauty contests.

However, since the emergence of Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman as the country’s de-facto leader, the Kingdom has undergone series of reforms, including legalization of driving for women, the opening of cinemas and even the legalization of alcohol for diplomats in the country’s capital Riyadh.
News reports from the Kingdom’s media indicate that a popular beauty queen, Rumy Al-Qahtani would represent the country in the beauty competition.
Images of Ms Qahtani have been circulated showing her holding the Saudi flag and draped with a sash for the Miss Universe beauty contest.
