The save children international has recognized the role of media in society, particularly in line with the Save the Children plans and policies.

Therefore, the group had strengthened its relationship with the media and broadened the impact of its activities of Save the Children International (SCI) by inaugurating the State Media Working Group (SMWG) in Kaduna State.

Speaking at the inauguration in Zaria, the Information and External Communication Specialist of SCI, Mr Kunle Olawoyin, said the group’s objective was to strengthen the existing cordial working relationship with the Media in the state.

“The purposes include establishing a culture of working with the Media and recognition of the role of the Media in society, particularly in line with the Save the Children plans and policies while maintaining formidable partnership on the domestication of the Child Rights Act.”

Olawoyi further said the great promise of mass media campaigns lies in their ability to disseminate well defined, behaviourally focused messages to large audiences repeatedly, over time, in an incidental manner and at a low cost per head.

Also, the Advocacy and Communication Coordinator
Kaduna office, Farouk Abdulkadir, hinted that SCI is embarking on a four-year health and nutrition advocacy project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Media Working Group is a key partner in the success of the Project.

AbdulKadir, who explained the idea for creating the State Media working group, attributed it was a result of the role the media plays in society, particularly information dissemination.

“Media plays a crucial role in educating and making individuals, communities, and society conscious about sustainable development, the need for more sustainable patterns of production and consumption, and encouraging them to take action directed towards change and a more sustainable future”, he noted.
