The Nigerian Senate has passed a motion urging the extradition of Simon Ekpa from Finland to Nigeria, as he faces accusations of corrupting the minds of youths in the South East region.

The motion, sponsored by Senator Osita Izunaso from Imo State and co-sponsored by all Southeastern senators, demands action against Ekpa for his alleged role in inciting unrest among the youth.

According to Senator Gbenga Daniel, “It’s a national problem, which is affecting commercial activities in the zone. If commercial activities are being shut down, it’s indeed a national problem.”

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe revealed that during a visit to Nnamdi Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), Kanu disavowed any connection to the sit-at-home orders and denied authorizing Simon Ekpa’s actions. Abaribe stated, “There’s no one in the south east who supports sit-at-home.This is beyond the citizenry.”

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, emphasized that the consequences of the protests were not confined to the South East alone. He said, “This must stop.”

The Senate, alarmed by the situation, issued a call for urgent action, demanding the extradition of Simon Ekpa from Finland.

The extradition is perceived as a crucial step to bring those responsible for inciting unrest and interfering with peaceful activities to justice.

The impact of this decision on the ongoing sit-at-home protests and the stability of the South East region remains to be seen.

As the nation awaits further developments, the Senate’s stance signifies its determination to address the issue promptly and restore normalcy in the affected areas.
