Tehran, August 2024 – Sergei Shoigu, the Secretary of Russiaโs Security Council and a key ally of President Vladimir Putin, recently visited Tehran to discuss critical regional and international issues with top Iranian officials.
This visit underscores the strengthening ties between Russia and Iran amid escalating Middle Eastern tensions following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

During his visit, Shoigu met with several high-ranking Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Rear Admiral Ali Akbar Ahmadian (Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council), and Major General Mohammad Baqeri (Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces).
