Senator Ibrahim Shekarau representing the Kano Central Senatorial Zone has formally written the Senate, dumping the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shekarau’s defection letter was read yesterday by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, after he had official defected to the PDP a moth ago.
However the Shekarau’s name still appears on the final list displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the senatorship candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial Zone.
INEC in Kano insists that it had not received any official letter informing it of Shekarau’s defection from the NNPP.
Announcing Shekarau’s defection through a letter received to that effect, the Senate President, said the Kano Central Senator wishes to officially inform his colleagues of it.
Shekarau had on Monday, August 29, 2022, defected along with thousands of his supporters to the PDP from NNPP on grounds of alleged unfair treatment by the party led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who is the Presidential candidate of the party.
Shekarau in the letter read by Lawan said that his defection and thousands of his supporters in Kano was to carry out their political aspirations in a party well disposed to them.
Expectedly after the announcement, PDP Senators led by the Minority leader , Philip Aduda, PDP, FCT and the Minority whip, Chukwuka Utazi ( Enugu North), joyfully embraced Shakarau for defecting to their party.
