The Osun Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Emmanuel Ocheja, has assured residents of the state of adequate security amidst the mayhem caused by the shooting in Osogbo, on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that some unknown individuals shot to scare away supporters of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who were moving with his convoy and hailing him as he passed through Osogbo.

The security details of the Minister were also reported to have shot into the air, to repel the gunmen, and the shootings created tension and pandemonium, with people running for safety.

The NSCDC commandant, through a statement by his command’s Public Relations Officer, Atanda Olabisi, however, explained that unknown hoodlums attacked the convoy of the former Governor of Osun and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, at about 6.40p.m around Old Garage area in Osogbo.

He also added that the security details of the Minister were able to disperse the hoodlums and restore normalcy to the area.

He said Osun is a peaceful state, adding that the state NSCDC command will continue to render excellent and all–inclusive security services in the state, in line with the statutory mandates and functions of the Corps.

He added that professionalism and impartiality is the watchword of NSCDC at all times. (NAN)
