A Delta-based socialite simply identified as Madam Success has been remanded in prison for allegedly luring four teenage students into prostitution.
Madam Success was said to have brought the four girls — who are between the ages of 13 and 15 — from Akwa Ibom state to Agbor, Delta state with the promise of offering them jobs.
The victims were said to have agreed to go with her so as to raise their school fees from the purported job opportunities.
The girls, however, said the socialite allegedly put them in a brothel and made them to sleep with at least five men daily.
At the court, the judge denied the suspect bail and ordered that she should be remanded in prison pending the conclusion of the trial.
Speaking with journalists after they were rescued, the teenagers said they made several attempts to escape but failed on each occasion.
“Auntie Success told us that she had job opportunities for us in Agbor, Delta State, where we would be selling drinks in a beer parlour, but on getting there, we discovered that it was prostitution work she brought us to do,” one of them said.
“The men paid the sum of N1,000 or N2,000 directly to our madam, who only gave us N400 every day for feeding. The direct payment to Madam Success made it difficult for us to have any cash at hand.
“These dresses (skimpy clothes) were bought for us from the proceeds paid to our madam.”
The students also claimed the socialite often punish them each time they try to run away.
“After the punishment, we were taken to a herbalist, who forced us to take an oath that we would never run away or we would die,” another victim said.
Bright Edafe, the Delta state police command spokesperson, could not be reached for comment as of the time of this report.
