The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has intercepted and confiscated over 200 cartons of liquid substances suspected to be alcoholic drinks at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.

Addressing journalists at the board’s office, Hisbah Commander Usman Jatau disclosed that no individual or group had come forward to claim ownership of the seized items.

He added that the board would consult the State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General to determine the next course of action.

While unveiling a set of rules and regulations for residents in Sokoto metropolis, Jatau clarified that the measures are not intended to target anyone or disrupt the state’s peace but would serve as guiding principles for the conduct of residents.

“The laws and regulations are not intended to target anybody with the intention of witch hunts, causing chaos, or disrupting the peaceful nature of the state but instead will serve as guiding principles in the day-to-day activities of the people of the state,” he said.

Jatau emphasized the importance of adhering to Islamic teachings and maintaining morality. “The rules are also expected to be followed—dress code, social business interactions, and relationships—which must be in line with the procedure permitted by Islamic law,” he explained.

He further stressed, “Taking any advantage at any place or a hideout for practising any immoral act is prohibited. Assaulting and cheating any Muslim fellow, directly or indirectly, must not be practised among others.”

Jatau highlighted that ceremonies, celebrations, and anniversaries must align with Shariah teachings, while selling or using illicit substances, including alcoholic drinks, at public gatherings or events is strictly forbidden.

The Hisbah Commander urged residents to fear Allah (SWT) in all their dealings and avoid all prohibited activities, ensuring a peaceful and moral society.
