According to manager Luciano Spalletti, Victor Osimhen will not play in Napoli’s Serie A match against Cremonese on Sunday.
Spalletti has been out of the Partenopei’s last five games in all competitions due to injury.
The Nigeria international has been out since injuring himself during Napoli’s UEFA Champions League home match against Liverpool last month.
The 23-year-old returned to practice with his teammates for the first time since suffering the injury on Friday.
There were reports that the striker would be included in the matchday squad for the match against Cremonese, but Spalletti has ruled that out.
“We have to be careful with Osimhen, he is not yet in perfect condition, and we decided to give him another rest to give him the proper time to recover,” Spalletti said, according to the club’s official website.
“These are assessments made after clinical examinations because we had to do without it for a long time before.” We don’t want to take any chances. Victor will be on-site these days.”
Osimhen has two goals in five appearances for the Partenopei this season in all competitions.
