Accompanying the announcement, Netflix released a brief trailer that hints at what fans can expect in the new series. The trailer features an Olympic-style theme where Squid Game competitors are once again racing to survive. The enigmatic character Front Man, portrayed by Lee Byung-hun, is seen overseeing the chaos, flanked by his pink-suited henchmen. His chilling words, โItโs been three years. Do you want to play again?โ set the tone for the upcoming series.
In addition to the confirmation of the second season, it has been revealed that a third series has already been commissioned. However, this will be the final chapter in the “Squid Game” saga. The show’s massive success also led to the creation of a reality show spin-off, “Squid Game: The Challenge,” further cementing its place in pop culture.
Lee Jung-jae, who plays the protagonist Seong Gi-hun, recently provided a glimpse into what fans can expect in the second season during an interview with RadioTimes.
He stated, โI think the script for season 2 is even more interesting than season 1, and there will be a new set of characters as well. One thing I felt when reading the script is that thereโs an even deeper emotion uncovered in season two, and I also think the audience is going to feel like, โWhere is this story going?โ Because there are so many twists and turns that happen.โ
