Governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party and member of House of Representatives for Kano Municipal Constituency, Honourable Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada OON, has hailed the people of Kano for responding maturely to the ban on tricycle movement on some major roads, which took effect on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

In a statement released by the Gubernatorial Campaign Council Spokesperson, Abbas Yushau Yusuf, the governorship candidate stated this while responding to the reversal of the restrictions by the state government in less than 24 hours after the enforcement.

Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada said “the people have shown the state government through democratic means that they are not ready for its hasty, unprepared, and dictatorial policies, which were aimed at harming the economic well-being of the Kano populace.”

He said: “the situation has shown Nigerians and the international community that Kano people are ready for change during the forthcoming governorship election on March 11, 2023, in which the Action Democratic Party is the party to beat.”

Sharada added: “the people of Kano, especially commuters who were adversely affected by the tricycle ban, have heard the ADP Gubernatorial Campaign Council’s sympathy for the hardship inflicted by the untimely policy and commended them for protesting it in a civilized manner.

“Our call and condemnation for the untimely policy and for a level playing field for every Kano citizen has forced the government, the Deputy who is the Gubernatorial Candidate of the APC, into a dramatic reaction and in a tone that suggests playing with the intelligence of the people through persuasive drama and radio announcements for the reversal of the unprepared policy,” he said.

The candidate also challenged the Kano Deputy Governor and asked, “Who is the APC Gubernatorial Candidate to tell the people who is wrong between him and his boss?” Where did they get it wrong when, in the first place, the restriction was announced without proper planning and consultations?

He also asked the two Kano helmsmen to tell the teeming Kano populace why the decision was taken without consultation despite knowing the hardship people would plunge into.

“As we promised, we have the best transportation blueprint for Kano, with which every body will be carried along when we come to power, including the tricycle operators,” said Sha’aban.

“What brought Kano to the present situation is the recklessness with which the present government of Kano state took the state town planning for granted due to illegal carve-outs on major highways, converting them to shops, and illegal commercial areas. This caused terrible traffic congestion in the city.

“Honorable Sharada further urged Kano citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and to continue to support the ADP and vote for the party in order to address the myriad of problems facing the state, including transportation.”

The Gubernatorial Candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Mallam Sha’aban Ibrahim, also described the suspension of the tricycle restriction in the state as an act of cowardice by the Kano State Government.

Sharada, who earlier kicked against the restriction, called on the general public to vote against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nasiru Gawuna, who has promised to consolidate on the achievements of Ganduje.

“The restriction was put in place without proper stakeholder engagement, not knowing that people would be this bitter.” They will not know the consequences until after the election, when they will be rejected by the people of Kano because of their anti-mass policies.

“The Ganduje administration has failed in all aspects: selling plots of land unnecessarily without looking at the risk, lack of access to major roads because of dilapidation, and lack of proper regulation of tricycle operators are legacies that posterity will judge.

“I’m restating to the general public that a vote for Gawuna is that of consolidation on Ganduje’s legacies, which he earlier promised in one of his speeches after the governor’s endorsement of his candidature at Africa House.

“For Gawuna to be pretending that he’s not part of the people who supported the restriction is a mere joke. We all know he was among those consulted. He is just trying to save his face,” said Sharada.”
