Journalists under the aegis of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN Kano state chapter has urged Kano residents to always extend gestures towards the well-being of indigent persons, specifically those inhabitants of Homeless and orphanage homes.
The association further urged those with the wherewithal to imbibe the spirit of fostering orphanage children.
The chairman, SWAN Kano chapter, Zahradeen Saleh who led members of the association to Nassarawa Home said “always remembering our children in these homes is a duty and it is a spiritual mandate that we must always exercise.
The voice president of SWAN northwest zone, Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu, who was part of the entourage to the home enjoined groups and philanthropists to emulate the gesture by SWAN Kano.
He said “nothing is meager not what is given but the spirit in which it is given, among those in these homes, who knows, there may be future presidents, governor, ministers and so on, we must care for them and at a time like this, when we are observing the holy month of Ramadan, this visit is part of our spiritual obligation at this time.
The supervisor of Nassarawa Home, hajiya Aishatu Sani Kurmawa who received the delegation on behalf of the commissioner for Women Affairs and Social development thanked SWAN Kano, for the visit.
According to her, the challenge confronting the children in the home is the need to help them assess tertiary education.
She said “we are calling on individuals and groups to come and compliment Kano state government efforts by assisting those of these children, who are qualified and ready to further their education.
Aishatu also appealed to well-meaning persons to come forward to foster the children.
Our correspondent reports that the items donated to the home by members of SWAN Kano chapter include, toiletries, educational materials, sachets of table water, talcum, and confectionaries.
