Police in Jigawa has arrested three vigilance members over the death of a 25-year-old man, Adamu Salisu, in Kirikasamma Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesman, ASP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday in Dutse.

Shiisu stated that on Aug. 28, Salisu was fetching water from a borehole opposite his house at about 1 a.m. when he was accosted by the vigilance team on foot patrol in the area.

“The vigilantes criminally conspired, went straight to the borehole and started quarrelling with Salisu to the extent that they beat him with sticks, and since then he fell sick.

“As a result of the beating, Salisu was placed on admission at the Hadejia General Hospital on Aug. 30.

“While on admission, Salisu narrated how the three suspects beat him with sticks while he was fetching water.

“Salisu died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Police visited the scene of the attack where the three suspects aged 50, 40 and 35 years were arrested,’’ Shiisu added.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, Mr Aliyu Sale, directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects. (NAN)
