Followers of Tijjaniyyah sect and Qur’anic reciters in Kano South Senatorial District have drummed support for the Senatorial Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Honorable Abdulrahman Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila.
The Leader of sect in Kano south, Malam Abdullahi Muhammad, at a meeting with Hon. Sumaila, said the sect had over 60 million followers across Nigeria and constituted over 80 per cent of Muslims in Kano state.
Muhammad added that the sect also had a total of 965 Zawiyyah and 3,700 Qur’anic schools across the 34 local government areas of Kano state.
He said the sect had embarked on rigorous campaign for Kawu Sumaial across the 16 local governments of Kano senatorial district, affirming that “we have directed all our members in the Kano south to vote for Kawu Sumaila in the forthcoming election.
“We are tired of bad representation and this time around we want change. The sect has already provided a situation room that will coordinate election activities for Kawu Sumaila,” he said.
Responding, Honorable Kawu Sumaila assured members of the sect of good representation if elected senator, noting that “Tijjaniyyah sect and Nigerian politics are going hand-in-hand. When our past leaders were murdered and the country was turned in chaos, the Tijjaniyyah leaders were invited for intervention.
“This is to tell you the level of importance and influence of Tijjaniyyah leaders in this country. I therefore, implore you to always promote peace and unity among Nigerians.
You should also to speak with one voice on any issue that bothers you or Islam.”
Kawu lamented poor condition of roads, schools and other amenities in the Kano south, regretting that “bad leadership is the cause agent of the deplorable condition of the amenities in the area.
“It is unfortunate that government has abandoned people in the rural areas in terms of provisions of social amenities and other services. Over 80 people died along Wudil-Gaya road due to bad condition of the road,” he said.
Meanwhile, the senatorial candidate also received a delegation of the Qur’anic Reciters Association, Kano South Senatorial District who paid a solidarity visit.
Leader of the association, Alaramma Muhammad Jamilu, said they came to register their loyalty and support, saying “We are here to register our support for you as senatorial candidate. We want assure you that our votes are yours.
“We have sensitized our members in all the 16 local governments. Your candidature is ours because you are part and parcel of Tijjaniyyah sect. we will do our best to ensure your victory,” he assured.
