President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Cotonou to attend the 63rd independence anniversary of the Republic of Benin.

President Tinubu, who arrived Tuesday morning, was received by President Patrice Talon and some top government officials.

On the entourage of the President were some of his political aides and six governors, which include Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara); Nasir Idris (Kebbi); and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger).

The event marks the third time Tinubu will meet the Talon since the former president became president.

They had first met each other on the sidelines of the summit on the New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France.

Both leaders later met at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held in Guinea-Bissau and recently in Abuja over the political developments in the Niger Republic, where the Benin Republic President invited him for the anniversary.

President Tinubu had drawn the attention of the Beninese leader to the need to review and strengthen cultural, trade, and economic relations between their two countries, highlighting joint border patrols by the Customs and harmonizing regulations on the frontlines.
