Tobi Amusan, a Nigerian sprinter and current world record holder, believes she will break the 11-second barrier this week at the Ostrava Golden Spikes Meet and the Lausanne Diamond League.
Tobi Amusan previously set a world record when she ran the 100m Hurdles in 12.12 seconds at the 2022 World Championships. She then ran 12.06 seconds in the tournament final, which was not recognised as a record due to the tailwind.
Amusan will compete in the first race at Ostrava on Tuesday (today) against formidable opponents such as American phenom Tia Jones, former world champion Nia Ali, and Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.
She will begin her Diamond League campaign in Lausanne on Friday, June 30, alongside Camacho-Quinn, Ali, Jones, and Alaysha Johnson, one of the year’s top hurdlers.
Tobi Amusan, the reigning world champion, won the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica three weeks ago with a commanding 12.57-second Season’s Best (SB), and she hopes to build on that success this weekend.
Amusan is in great shape and ready to defend her world title in Budapest now that she appears to be in the same shape she was when she made a name for herself last year.
Amusan told reporters ahead of Tuesday’s Golden Spike meet in the eastern Czech city of Ostrava that she hopes to run the 100m hurdles in under 11 seconds.
