Panic as flood sacks Ikire town in Osun State
Following long hours of rainfall on Saturday morning, some parts of Ikire town, the headquarters of Irewole local government area of Osun State have been submerged.
Properties worth millions of Naira were also destroyed as a result of the flood that accompanied the heavy downpour.
Residents disclosed to DAILY POST that the rain started early on Saturday morning around 8am and lasted until afternoon.
Troops neutralize four bandits in gun duel in Zamfara
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Hadarin Daji in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Friday night neutralized four bandits.
The troops, according to a source engaged the bandits in a gun duel when they were about to attack a community in the local government.
The source explained that upon receiving the information, the troops quickly mobilised to the area and engaged the armed bandits in a gun duel and denied them assess to the villages.
He explained, “After the encounter, four bandits were neutralised while others escaped with gun wounds. While repelling the attack, the troops recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun, one FN Rifle and 123 rounds of special ammunition from the bandits.”

United Airlines grows revenue to $14.2bn
United Airlines grew its operating revenue by 17.1 per cent to $14.2bn in the second quarter of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.
In a statement announcing the financial results, the company reported quarterly earnings per share of $3.24 and pre-tax margin of 9.8 per cent. Its net income appreciated to $1.1bn.
The momentum from the second quarter was expected to power the company to full year 2023 adjusted earnings per share of $11 to $12, up versus previous guidance of $10 to $12.

Include youths in ECOWAS agenda, council urges Tinubu
The ECOWAS Youth Council has urged the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, Bola Tinubu, to make youth inclusion and development part of the sub-regional body’s agenda during his tenure.
The EYC hailed Tinubu, who is also Nigeria’s president, for declaring a commitment to ending coups, maintaining peace and security in West Africa, especially in Francophone countries as priority issues of the ECOWAS.
EYC said these steps if pursued effectively, would ensure stability, peace and unity in members countries.
The President of EYC, Dr Oluwaseun William, spoke in Abeokuta, during the investiture of Dr Babatunde Adeyemo as ECOWAS Youth Ambassador.
