The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Tuesday night declared an indefinite nationwide strike.

He said the strike was declared during the National Executive Council meeting of the association in Lagos.

DSS men, Prisons officials in free-for-all over Emefiele

46 days after he was arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS and two weeks after a Federal High Court in Abuja gave an order for his release or arraignment for any offence he might have allegedly committed, suspended Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, was yesterday arraigned for illegal possession of firearms and granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Emefiele’s arraignment was, however, enmeshed in drama, following a scuffle between DSS operatives and officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service, over which of the agencies should take custody of Emefiele after he was granted bail in the sum of N20million by Justice Nicholas Oweibo.

Tinubu to send ministerial list to Senate on Thursday — Senate Leader

President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday, send the much awaited ministerial list to the senate, the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has said.

Mr Bamidele (APC-Ekiti) made this known at the launch of a book he wrote titled: “Leadership Through Communication” (Volumes 1 and 2).

The senate leader said Mr Tinubu was unable to attend the unveiling of the book because he had to be away for the next 48 hours in order to decide on the ministerial list.

Mr Bamidele said, “Significantly at 10:05 am this morning (Tuesday) I saw a missed call and it was Seyi Tinubu and Seyi said at exactly 10 o’clock make sure your phone is in your hand.“

This is because Mr President is going to call you and three minutes past 10 a.m, Mr President Bola Tinubu was on the phone and he said to me Opeyemi, you know nothing in this world would have stopped me from being there on your birthday.

CBN on new route to inflation control, raises interest on deposits by banks

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), yesterday, took a route to combating inflation as it tinkered with the asymmetry corridor, increasing banks’ incentives to unpack their idle funds.

Whereas it slowed down on its interest rate hike to 25 basis points (bpts) – the smallest since the start of the anti-inflation war in May 2022 – bringing the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) to 18.75 per cent, it adjusted the asymmetry corridor from +100/-700 to +100/-300.

The adjustment means the banks would lend to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at MPR less 300 basis points through the discount window.

Previously, the apex bank borrowed from commercial banks at MPR less 700 basis points (seven per cent).
