Court To Rule On CBN’s Emefiele Case Seeking Release From DSS Detention

Following his suspension and subsequent arrest, the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is seeking his release from the detention of the Department of State Services (DSS).

the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, will today, Thursday, rule on its jurisdiction to hear the suit filed by Emefiele challenging his arrest and detention by the DSS.

Joseph Daudu (SAN), counsel to the suspended CBN governor, in the suit before the court, is alleging a violation of his human rights.

Joined as respondents in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation; the Director General of the DSS and the DSS, who have filed preliminary objections, challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the case and urging that the suit be dismissed.

Dokubo’s outburst: FG’s silence thriggers concerns

On Friday, June 17, former Niger Delta militants’ leader, Asari Dokubo stirred the hornet’s nest when he accused the military of being complicit in the oil theft in the region, and equally threatened to kill the Igbo in their numbers.

This heavy threat and allegation were released right inside the presidential villa where he had gone to see the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He emphatically declared that some cabals in the military were neck deep in the unfortunate operation of oil theft in the Niger Delta, which has brought the country’s oil production to its lowest ebb, and at the same time affected the total oil revenue, and by extension, brought untold economic hardship to Nigerians.

Convert IPOB into political party – Omokri tells Igbos

Reno Omokri has urged Igbos to convert the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) into a political party.

The socio-political activist said Nigerians would vote for IPOB if it were converted into a political party.

Tweeting, Omokri wrote: “Play your cards right, and Nnamdi Kanu will be freed. Renounce violence, like the Irish Republican Army did, and convert IPOB into a political party, the way the IRA became Sinn Féin, and democratically seize control of the Southeast, then turn it into a paradise, and other Nigerians will even vote for IPOB party Senators, Governors, and President. Who no like better thing?

Customs Boss Visits Ribadu, Says Smugglers Must Be Defeated

The Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has said the fight to curb land borders smuggling is one of his topmost priorities.

Adeniyi stated this on Wednesday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, at his office.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Maiwada, the Customs boss sought the support of the NSA to end border insecurity and the menace of smuggling.

Adeniyi emphasised the need to address some of the challenges associated with manning Nigeria’s vast and porous land borders.

Police kill two suspected kidnappers in Anambra, rescue abducted woman

Police in Anambra State have gunned down two members of a gang, suspected to be kidnappers.

This is coming as the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has warned police operatives in the state to desist from incessant arrest of innocent citizens of the state.

Adeoye, who spoke to journalists in his maiden press conference after being posted to the state, said the command was ready to flush out criminal elements in the state.

He said: “I’m not in the habit of asking criminals to relocate to other states, our promise to them is that we will flush them out by ourselves.
