Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu has threatened that traders in Enugu who observe next Monday’s sit-at-home order of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) will lose their shops and license.

Mbah stated this when he toured various parts of the state capital on Monday to monitor the level of compliance with his ban on the order.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recall that a few days after their assumption of office, Mbah announced an end to the order, effective from June 5.

He had said such orders restrict creativity, entrepreneurship, and productivity in the state, and threatened to close any school, markets, and financial institutions, among others, that obey the order.

Tinubu returns to Abuja from AU summit in Kenya

President Bola Tinubu, Monday evening, returned to Abuja from Nairobi, Kenya, where he participated in the 5th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU).

President Tinubu arrived the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Monday evening.

The President, who attended the summit in his new capacity as the Chairman of the Authority of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), had left Abuja on Saturday.

While in Nairobi, the President joined other African leaders to draft a declaration based on deliberations and conclusions arrived at the meeting, reaffirming Africa’s unity and strength, firmly rejecting any notion of a new scramble for Africa.

FG confirms first case of anthrax disease in Nigeria

The Federal Government on Monday confirmed the first case of anthrax disease in Nigeria.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) confirmed that the case occurred on a farm in the Suleja area of Niger State.

According to an official statement, the animals showing signs of a possible case of anthrax on a farm in Suleja, Niger State, were reported to the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) of Nigeria, Dr. Columba T. Vakuru on July 14, 2023.

“The case was in a multi-specie animal farm comprising of cattle, sheep and goats located at Gajiri, along Abuja-Kaduna express way Suleja LGA Niger State, where some of the animals had symptoms including oozing of blood from their body openings – anus, nose, eyes and ears.”

Reps screen CDS, service chiefs

Acting Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Christopher Musa and Service Chiefs yesterday restated their plans to safeguard Nigeria against internal and external aggressors.

They repeated the assurance when they appeared before the House of Representatives in continuation of their screening as substantive military helmsmen.

Last week, Musa, Taoreed Lagbaja (Chief of Army Staff), Hassan Abubakar(Air Force), Emmanuel Ogalla(Navy) and Emmanuel Undiandeye (Defence Intelligence) were at the Senate where members grilled them on their suitability for the positions.

APC top positions: Why Adamu, Omisore lost out

Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore left their positions yesterday as national chairman and national secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following complaints about lack of accountability and non-inclusive leadership, it was learnt.

They were also accused of personalising their positions and sidelining critical organs, particularly the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC).

Besides, Adamu and Omisore, according to sources, lost out in the power game because of an indictment in the party’s audit report.
