In a notable political development, Alhaji Abdullahi Ali, popularly known as Alin Kano, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alin Kano, recognized as a key grassroots politician from Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, was warmly received into the ruling APC by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, during a ceremony held at the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday.

Daily News 24 reports that Senator Barau Jibrin praised Alin Kano, who holds the traditional title of Garkuwan Tsakuwa, for his unwavering dedication and integrity in politics. He highlighted that Alin Kano’s commitment to advancing the interests of youth and students at both the national and local levels has been commendable. The senator expressed confidence that Alin Kanoโ€™s defection would significantly bolster the APC’s presence, especially in Dawakin Kudu and across the Kano South region.

โ€œHis defection strengthens our party, especially in Dawakin Kudu and Kano South,โ€ Barau stated, emphasizing the importance of this political shift. The senator also pointed out that Alin Kanoโ€™s move to the APC reflects a growing confidence in the party’s leadership and policies in Kano State.

Alin Kano, explaining his decision to join the APC, cited his deep respect for Senator Barau Jibrin and the senatorโ€™s impactful contributions to the development of Kano State and the Northern region as a whole. He mentioned that these contributions, along with Barau’s unwavering support, were key factors that influenced his decision to switch allegiance.

The defection event was attended by several prominent figures, including Hon. Labaran Abdul Madari, the Minority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, and Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, the Special Adviser to the President on Community Engagement for the North West. Their presence at the event further underscored the significance of this political realignment in Kano State.

This defection is seen as a major boost for the APC as it continues to consolidate its position in Kano State, particularly ahead of future elections. With Alin Kano’s strong grassroots support and influence, the APC hopes to strengthen its foothold in the region, potentially reshaping the political landscape in Kano State.
