On Tuesday, a trader, Ali Jibrin, 49, appeared in an Upper Area Court in Zuba, Abuja, for allegedly receiving 41 stolen toilet seats worth N1.3 million.

The police charged Jibrin with receiving stolen property.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court the matter was reported to the police by the complainant, Michael Onyebuchi, on May 25.

Ogada said that N300,000 was recovered from the defendant in the course of the investigation.

He added that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor prayed the court to grant him a date to open the case.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Gambo Garba, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1million and a surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must have reasonable means of livelihood and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Garba also ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kuje correctional facility following the absence of a surety.

He also ordered that the truck driver be brought to court alongside the defendant on the adjourned date.

The judge adjourned the case until July 14 for a hearing. (NAN)
