Nigerian Twitter users have reacted to the suspension of Imam Sheikh Nuru Khalid who was suspended for criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari, following last week’s attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train.
In a message sent to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa service, the chairman of the Mosque Committee, Senator Sa’idu Muhammed Dansadau, said they suspended the cleric because of his provocative sermon, which was organised by the committee.
@UsmanBe posted: ”D committee that suspended Sheikh Nuru Khalid for telling the TRUTH are more dangerous to humanity than d bandits themselves The level of hypocrisy in d name of religion is our main prblem Sadly enough the chairman of the d comitte can’t even visit his vilgs anymore bcz insecurity.”
@FakhuusHashim twitted: ”The suspension/removal of Sheikh Nuru Khalid merely paints a vivid picture of our religious establishment. He is one of the very few that speaks truth to power, and preaches to people ever so kindly. His sin is that he’s an upright human being whose soul overflows with empathy.”
@Mallam posted: ”Sheikh Nuru Khalid is bold, fearless and confident… May Allah SWA continue to guide and protect him. 🙏… We now leave in a country where when you spit out the truth.. They find ways to see they silence you..😣😢”
@ChimeziriColli said ”This here is the way Religious leaders should be speaking Truth to power. Death or Life, the Truth shall prevail in the End. Freedom like they say is not cheap, comes with consequences many are too afraid to bare. Respect for your Courage Sheikh Nuru Khalid.”
@Ekwulu wrote: ”Can someone explain to me in a language l can understand, why Sheikh Nuru Khalid was suspended? When did it become an offense for a man of God to say the truth? What is this country turning to? The just shall be vindicated.”
