Identical twins, Taiwo and Kehinde Olude, are among seven graduands that will be awarded first class degrees at the 8th Convocation ceremony of Glorious Vision University (GVU), (formerly known as Samuel Adegboyega University), Ogwa in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adewumi Idowu, announced this at the pre-2022 convocation press conference held at the institution on Tuesday, saying the twin sisters achieved the feat in different departments — Economics and Chemical Sciences.
“This is the first time we are having twins graduate with first class degrees in the same academic session.
“Since inception, GVU has produced six sets of graduates with a total number of 670 undergraduates, eight postgraduates and nine Honorary Doctoral Certificates.
“And by the grace of God, this year, we are producing 101 with seven (7) graduating with First Class honours, 33 with Second Class (Upper Division), 46 with Second Class (Lower Division), seven with 3rd Class and four Postgraduates.
“One of the uniqueness of 2022 graduating class is the set of twins from the Olude family, both graduating with First Class honours.
“Taiwo Abigail Olude emerges the best graduating student from Economics Department and Kehinde Mary Olude also emerges the second best student from Department of Chemical Sciences.”
Idowu said the institution had continued to maintain high academic standards, emerging recently as the best among the private universities in the South South.
“Among the 13 indicators that were analysed which include Universities with Full Accreditation, percentage of programmes, knowledge economy, among the private Universities in the South – South, our University came first,” he said.
He said that the management had applied to the NUC to approve the commencement of Ph.D. in all the programmes in the three Colleges that had produced Master’s Degree graduates.
Idowu named the colleges as Management Sciences; Humanities and Social Sciences, and Basic and Applied Sciences.
The VC explained that the institution enjoyed cordial relationship with the host community, hence had extended some of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects to them.
He said that over the years, the management had engaged in some CSR projects, which include the extension of borehole water to the community by locating fetching points directly in front of the University gate.
Idowu announced the institution’s introduction of 100 per cent and 50 per cent tuition rebate programmes in its quest to make quality education accessible to many and in line with the founding fathers’ vision.
“It has approved 100% tuition free for B.A. Religious Studies and B.A Philosophy and 50% tuition free for B.Sc. Mathematics, B.Sc. Physics and B.Sc. Statistics effective from the 2021/2022 academic session.
“Parents, children and wards are therefore encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to develop themselves in their chosen careers.”
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that part of the activities lined up for the 8th convocation ceremonies include a convocation lecture on Thursday, with the theme “The 21st Century Emerging Jobs; Imperative for a new paradigm of University education.”
