Atiku Kawai, a political group established to promote Nigeria’s former Vice President and Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party PDP in the 2019 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, have reacted to the recent suspension of social media platform, Twitter by the Federal Government.
Below is the statement issued to Daily News 24 signed by its founder, AbdulRasheeth Shehu:
“With the sudden and unwarranted ban of Twitter Nigeria, we wish to reinforce the Nigerian constitution as it regards ‘Freedom of expression’ and in strong terms, condemn this undemocratic act by the federal government of Nigeria.
“As we all know that as a Media Group, the social media remains our theatre of operations and Twitter is one of the most effective platforms for our activities. However, this ban affords us the opportunity to explore other media that has gotten less attention from us – Facebook and Instagram.
“We are using this opportunity to appreciate our active members and participants, who have done excellently well in recent times. We can’t be stopped and our voices can’t be gagged under any disguise. This is a Democracy and we must live by its tenets.
“While we hope the federal government will revert from its embarrassing pronouncement – we ask you all to remain calm and steadfast.” The statement ended.
