Two men, Azeez Bashiru (41) and Sikiru Ogunrin (40), were arraigned on Thursday in an Iyaganku magistrates’ court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly assaulting and threatening the life of a traditional ruler, Chief Akeem Tijani, the Baale of Igunrin village.

The police charged the defendants with conspiracy, assault, threat to life, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The prosecutor, ASP Sikiru Ibrahim, told the court that the defendants and others (at large) flogged the traditional ruler on November 22, 2022, at about 4 p.m. on Iseyin Road, Ibadan, and threatened violence on his family.

He said the defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by blocking a road with stones, bottles, and other weapons.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs. T. B. Oyekanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each and two sureties in like sum and adjourned to March 1.
