The Kano State House of Assembly has invited the Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Abdulrazak Salihi, over the activities of the board.
The invitation came after urgent public interest was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Labaran Abdul Madari, during the plenary session.
- Training of human resources for efficiency, productivity, the main focus of Kano Assembly – Speaker
- Financial Autonomy will pave the way for devt – Kano Assembly Speaker
- Bill for compulsory HIV, hepatitis, sickle cell test passes second reading in Zamfara assembly
He was seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Abdullahi Iliyasu Yaryasa, representing the Tudun Wada constituency.
While the house did not state the reason for the summon, it is coming on the heels of moves by Rivers and Lagos states to retain a collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) and the criticism that Kano has fallen down the pecking order of states with high IGR despite being the country’s centre of commerce.
However, the house unanimously agreed that the Speaker, Rt Hon Engineer Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, summon the Chairman to appear on the 14th day of September 2021.
In a related development, the house has received a letter from the Office of the Auditor-General regarding the Audited Accounts of 20 parastatals on the Auditor General’s Comment on various MDA.
The assignment was handed over to the Public Account Committee of the House for further Legislative action and was given three months to submit its report to the house.
