Martins Vincent Otse, known widely as VeryDarkMan, was born on April 8, 1994, in Abuja, Nigeria. Originating from Edo State, Martins grew up in Lagos, where he faced financial difficulties from an early age. His challenging upbringing fueled his passion for advocating against injustice and standing up for the underprivileged. His activism on social media, particularly Instagram, has earned him a large following and a reputation for taking bold stances on societal issues.

Despite his growing fame, VeryDarkMan has consistently maintained that wealth is not his goal. He lives modestly, turning down lucrative offers because he believes that his fight for justice is far more important than financial gain.

VeryDarkMan Biography: Education

VeryDarkMan attended the University of Lagos, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. His education provided him with the skills needed to articulate his views clearly and passionately on social media platforms. His command of English and ability to address complex issues has been widely praised by both his followers and prominent Nigerian figures.

Rise to Fame

VeryDarkMan first gained widespread recognition in 2022, when his fearless criticism of societal issues began to attract attention on social media. One of his first major moments came when he called out Jenny’sglow, a skincare brand, over claims that their products had harmed customers. This public battle won him the support of many Nigerians, solidifying his status as a rising activist and influencer.

In June 2023, his influence grew further when Nigerian music star Davido followed him on Instagram and publicly supported his activism. Later that year, VeryDarkMan was nominated for the Silverbird Most Influential Social Media Influencer of the Year award.

Though praised by many for his activism, VeryDarkMan’s outspoken nature has led to several legal confrontations. In March 2024, he was arrested on charges of cyberbullying and cyberstalking, following accusations of making false claims against Nigerian celebrities and officials. After pleading not guilty, he was remanded for two weeks before being released.

In June 2024, VeryDarkMan was arrested again at his home in Abuja, this time over allegations of defamation related to a social media post. He was questioned by police but was released shortly afterward without charges.

Bobrisky Controversy and EFCC Involvement

One of the most prominent controversies involving VeryDarkMan is his ongoing feud with Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. The dispute took a serious turn in September 2024, when VeryDarkMan released an audio recording that allegedly featured Bobrisky admitting to bribing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.

In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly claimed that, despite being sentenced to six months in prison, he never served time behind bars. Instead, his godfather arranged for him to serve the term in a lodge. Bobrisky later denied the allegations, stating that the audio was fabricated and that he had served his time in prison.

The revelation about the audio recording was reportedly influenced by Seun Kuti, the Nigerian singer and activist. Kuti revealed that VeryDarkMan had informed him about the recording and that he encouraged him to expose Bobrisky.

Following the release of the recording, both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan were summoned by the EFCC to its Lagos office for questioning over the bribery allegations. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Awards

In 2023, VeryDarkMan was nominated for the Silverbird Most Influential Social Media Influencer of the Year award, in recognition of his significant impact in raising awareness on social justice issues through digital platforms.
