Water scarcity has hit Hotoro Danmarke in Kano State following a protest by water vendors in the area and its environs.

BizPoint reports that the water vendors decided to shut down their businesses after one of their members was allegedly attacked by residents for refusing to sell water to one of them.

A water vendor, Mallam Yahuza Lawan, an eyewitness said they decided to take the decision because one of their members had been attacked by some residents of the area.

According to Lawan, the resident asked the affected vendor to sell the water he loaded on his cart to deliver to a customer but he tried to divert him to their area.

He added that when he refused to follow them because he was on his way to deliver the water to a customer who already paid his money, they started beating him up until they injured one of his eyes.

Lawan also alleged that the residents had caused the water vendor lost his eye.

“He is now in hospital undergoing treatment. The doctors told us that he has lost his eye as it has been damaged sue to severe beating.

“Therefore, we have decided to shut down our businesses. Some of us have already travelled home while those that are here have refused to continue selling water.

“We have to protest for what happened to our brother. Our members have suffered sucks assaults. We will no longer condone it,” Lawan said.

Adamu Khalil, a water seller, also joined the protest, saying that he had closed down his warer-selling point to join the protest.

“They just beat him up for refusing to sell water for them after he even told them that they should wait for him to deliver the water a customer that had already paid his money.

“We have shut down our businesses until the right thing is done. We heard that the principal suspect was arrested by officers of Hotoro Police Division. Let justince be done to their brother,” Khalil said.

BizPoint observed that the protest had caused water scarcity at Danmarke, Hotoro Bayan Depot, Unguwa Uku Kauyen Alu and other areas.

The residents had already started feeling the impact of the protest, as observed by BizPoint.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said he would investigate the matter.
