Naziru Ahmad, a prominent Hausa musician has told Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf not to build any more flyovers because the state has had enough of them over the past few years.
Daily News 24 reports that Mr Ahmad, popularly known as Sarkin Waka, disclosed this in a recent interview with DCL Hausa.
The musician said the flyover bridges built by former governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and immediate past governor, Abdullahi Ganduje have brought sanity and reduced congestion in the city.
He said: “We are offering our advice to the government because it is our government. They should not repeat the past projects of previous governments.
“Since former governor, (Rabiu) Kwankwaso and his successor (Abdullahi) Ganduje had constructed bridges in the city, the government should now focus on road construction within neighbourhoods”.
Mr Ahmad also criticized the government over its practice of using local government funds, particularly rural areas to develop the city.

Describing the practice as injustice he explained: “I don’t know what they think, but to me, it is wrong to develop the city using local government funds meant for developing rural areas.
“For instance, how can you take funds from Kiru or Kura local governments and apply it to projects in the city leaving Kiru and Kura without any project? ” he asked.
According to him, most of the projects that are being executed by governors are concentrated in about four to five local governments such as Kumbotso, Municipal, Fagge, Dala and Nasarawa LGAs.
“I believe this wrong because if you notice, some of these rural areas do not have water, electricity and good schools.
“The government should concentrate on providing these services to the rural areas because the federal government is allocating funds to develop them,” he said.
However, Mr Ahmad praised Mr Yusuf’s government over the rehabilitation of hospitals across the state as well as payment of pensions and gratuities the pensioners who have been suffering for years.
Recall that Governor Yusuf had in December, 2023 approved the sum of N27 billion to construct two additional flyover bridges at Dan Agundi and Tal’udu areas of Kano city.
