Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigerian leaders to effectively utilize the country’s abundant resources to foster national development.
Speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Methodist Archdiocese of Abuja on Sunday, Olusegun Obasanjo emphasized that Nigeria possesses all the necessary elements for prosperity but must manage these blessings wisely.

Reflecting on the sermon delivered by Methodist Prelate Dr. Oliver Aba, Obasanjo stressed the importance of recognizing and appreciating Godโs provisions. He pointed out that, like other resource-rich nations, Nigeria is endowed with significant assets, including the Rivers Niger and Benue, crude oil, and fertile land.
โGod has equipped Nigeria with everything necessary for growth,โ Obasanjo remarked. โJust as Egypt has the River Nile, we have our own rivers and a wealth of natural resources. Nigeria was not created to struggle, and itโs our responsibility to recognize and utilize these blessings. Many nations lack the resources we take for granted.โ
He further urged leaders, religious figures, and citizens to pray for Nigeriaโs healing, noting that the nationโs current difficulties stem not from a scarcity of resources but from poor management.
โWe have misused the gifts God has given us,โ he stated. โBut if we humble ourselves and seek His guidance, He will heal our land.โ
