Amidst the fuse caused by ASUU strike, its unending state of disagreement with the Federal government, campaigns for elections shoot and students react to the idea of participating in the actions.

“I will campaign for politicians and resume school when an agreement is reached”- A student has stood his ground stating that the aspirants he supports have no connection with ASUU strike.

A penultimate law student of Bayero University Kano(BUK), expressed his disappointment, stating that students should even boycott anything called election and politics to show their anger towards the system.

Buhari begs ASUU to call off strike, asks students to be patient

In his words: “Honestly, it is what makes me angry constantly, and I hate thinking about it. And students are campaigning mostly for APC, the same APC that put us in this mess.

What reasonable steps has APC taken so far to ensure an end to this ASUU strike since it is during their administration.” He lamented.

He continued; “In 2014/2015, Tinubu and APC (generally) were campaigning for Buhari in every state, making promises upon promises, especially in relation to education. Since the beginning of this ASUU strike, what has Tinubu done? Nothing.

Instead, he declared his interest, purchased a nomination form, and joined the race. I am just angry at every student who is not seeing reasons to hate these politicians with passion.”-He concluded.

“This act of the students is not new in Nigeria. This particular round of ASUU strike shows the color of the federal government. It is no longer the universities but also polytechnics.”

“The students should know the government doesn’t care about them and rethink the idea of campaigning. The students are in a critical condition and have no idea about their future.”

According to a UniMaid student, it is logical to canvass for an aspirant only when he/she portrays the needed attributes of a leader. Students shouldn’t participate in political apathy because they’ve been wrong.

In his words “I think the students can actually make a loud voice to get their interest by popular participation. Proving we’re instrumental. However, I am neither supporting the idea nor against it.”

Another student, waved at the critics- ” It’s bound to happen I’m not surprised. The government is so deep into corruption and we can’t single handedly fight it. There is an economic crisis. People know the truth, what is wrong and what is right but still support just to earn a living.

“I don’t see a single student who isn’t benefiting from the political party he or she is campaigning so I think they should be left alone. It’s all for survival.”

Khadijah Oboruojah, A student of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) added: “ASUU strike has spoiled a lot of plans for students, including me.

Adding to the years spent in school and so campaigning for politicians should be the last thing students should do now, seeing that none of the politicians have interest in working on the education system which I would say is the major point to look at now before picking who seats on any political seat.”

” To students I would say, instead of wasting their time they should use that time to work on themselves and see that they are more of a help to the country than the politicians.

Learning a skill to develop oneself is one thing to do. Or community development or volunteering to do something for the society to actually help people.”
