The WELFA English British College Kano, has lamented over the failed promises made by the popular known politician and businessman Abdulkarim Abdussalam Zaura also known as A. A. Zaura in sponsoring 2000 students to learn how to read, write and speak in English.Â
This resentment situation made students crestfallen which led to a protest against the unfulfilled word of honour by A. A. Zaura.
In an interview with Director WELFA British English College Kano, Badaru Isyaku Babura expressed his dissatisfaction with Zaura’s failed scholarship and narrated that “the centre was developed to strengthen education, due to that I use to contact philanthropists and politicians who have interest towards enhancing education.
“We engaged with such patrons to seek scholarships to sponsor people who have interest in learning but have no capacity to aid themselves.
“So I moved further to initiate a program and wrote a proposal to A. A. Zaura through his campaign director and narrated the ideology behind the program of sponsoring Kano youths who can not read, write and speak in English Language.
He added that “the centre provided free transportation fare for the students because some cannot afford to transport themselves.
“After explaining the initiative to Zaura, he accepted and sponsored 1000 students and promised to give them 2000 naira for transport while a refund of 2000 naira was made to the students which they paid initially for form and ID card while reading materials was also donated to the students”. He said

Badaru noted that the first batch of the program was successful, which AA Zaura called for the second batch and ordered the admission of 2000 students, which he made the declaration during the graduation dinner of the first batch.
“We started the second batch successfully at first, not until some of AA Zaura’s caucus manipulated the initiative with the intention of getting money from me, which at last they dissolved the program after 6 weeks of starting.
Badaru Isayaku exposed that AA Zaura has failed to pay the sum of 13 million which was meant for the teachers.
“This issue led to a 2 weeks strike, also we tried to reach the AA Zaura team but all efforts proved abortive.
Student narrates his ordeal
Ridwan Isyaku Usman, 20 years old, one of the beneficiaries of AA Zaura WELFA English British College scholarship, said he joined WELFA English British College six weeks ago before the termination of the program.
He expressed his grief saying “actually we were happy when our registration was paid due to the school has well teaching standard.
“Unaware this sad condition occurred, which we advocated by protesting and voicing our grievances in the media.
“We went to school today, which Badaru briefed us on termination of the scholarship program due to unfulfilled promis by A. A. Zaura.
The students noted that, the English College has considered to cut-off part of the registration fee, which they are to pay 3,000 naira instead of 6,000 naira for registration.

Director of A. A. Zaura’s campaign team, Hon. Yahaya Garun Ali who reacted to the allegation on a radio programme monitored by Daily News 24 said, Badaru is impatient for commissioning the second batch without AA Zaura fully approving the scholarship of the new 2000 intakes.
