Former President Donald Trump recently caused a stir with a dramatic recounting of a helicopter emergency landing incident.
At a press conference on Thursday, Trump described a harrowing incident involving a forced emergency landing with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. However, the real story involves a mix-up between two prominent California figures.

Trump claimed, “I went down in a helicopter with [Willie Brown]. We thought maybe this was the end.” He added, “We were in a helicopter, going to a certain location together, and there was an emergency landing. This was not a pleasant landing.”
In reality, Willie Brown has clarified he was never on a helicopter with Trump. Instead, it was former California Governor Jerry Brown who accompanied Trump in a helicopter in 2018 to survey wildfire damage. There was no emergency landing during that flight. Jerry Brown confirmed this, stating that the flight was uneventful and did not involve any issues.
Willie Brown responded to Trump’s comments, saying, “You would have known if I had gone down on a helicopter with Trump.” He also denied ever speaking negatively about Vice President Kamala Harris to Trump, saying, “Hell, no. I wouldn’t say anything bad about any woman to him.”
Current Governor Gavin Newsom, who was also on the 2018 flight with Trump and Jerry Brown, confirmed there were no problems or discussions about Harris.
Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, declined to address the discrepancies in the story, simply referring to Trump’s statement as part of his collection of personal anecdotes.
