The federal member representing Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure constituencies in the house of representatives, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum has called on journalists in Kano and the nation at large not to relent in the fight fake news and all its ramifications in the country.

Hon. Rurum made the call, while paying a congratulory visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalist ( NUJ) Kano branch, on the newly elected executive members.

The former Kano speaker represented by his special assistant on media matters, Fatihu Yusif Bichi said bona fide journalists in the state have a huge responsibility towards fighting fake news emanating from social and conventional media.

Adding that, Journalists have stakes and all it takes to curve the damages inflicted on the psyche, and peoples confidence repose hugely on news outlets, particularly the social media platform.

He then congratulated the new executive members of NUJ, Kano branch for the fesh task granted upon them.

While responding, The chairman of the NUJ Kano branch Abbas Ibrahim, who was visibly delighted with the gesture, admitted that Hon Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Journalists in Kano are a close-knit family striving for a common purpose of impacting positively the people.

Adding that, Hon Rurum by the virtue of his political experience stemming from Lagos, in northwestern Nigeria, clearly indicates that his vast experience, which is presently yielding fruitful result in his present endeavour doesn’t come as surprise.

Given the damaging effects of fake news spread across social and the conventional media, Abbas Ibrahim said sleeves are already rolled-up by the teeming efforts of Journalists to curve the unwanted trend.

Among the union executive members graced the visits reception includes Nura Shehu Bakin Ruwa, secretary, Sunusi Kofar Na’isa, Treasurer and Mallam Abba Murtala.

Congratulatory letter from Hon. Kabiru Rurum was presented to the state union chairman, Abbas Ibrahim to marked the visit as historical and documented.
