A Nollywood actress, Yetunde Bakare, says women who lie about their age do so to earn respect or feel young.

According to her, the trend of lying or reducing one’s age is not peculiar to actresses as women in other walks of life do so too.

Speaking to Sunday Scoop, she said, “Lying about one’s age isn’t limited to celebrities alone because a lot of people do it nowadays.” Some do it because of their partners, and some do it to earn respect.  Others do it to seek sympathy or get job opportunities. A lot of people in different industries do it as well.

“Many hard-working single ladies do it when searching for Mr Right.  In this part of the world, guys see dating an older woman as a taboo. As a result, women frequently reduce their age in order to feel young and accepted.”

On why she has not been appearing in movies lately, Bakare said she has been busy dealing with challenges that come with being a single mother.

She said, “As much as I am passionate about my profession, I had to face reality as a single mother.

My responsibilities keep getting bigger, and I don’t want my passion to turn me into a beggar since I wasn’t making much money. So, I learned some skills and started doing business, which takes up most of my time.

“Doing business makes me more selective because if I have to leave my business to go to a movie location, then the script and pay must be worth it.” She added.
