An Area Court sitting in Ilorin has dissolved an Islamic marriage between Nafisat Kamilu and Jimoh Kamilu.
Presiding Judge AbdulQodir Ahmed said on Thursday that the wife prayed the court to dissolve her marriage without any reason than the husband’s irresponsible act.
The Counsel to the respondent, AbdulRasheed Isiak, told the court that all efforts to plead with the wife and her family was futile, as the family never allowed access to the wife.
Isiak said that the marriage was through the two family consent, more of introducing them to each other (match making), but when they started having misunderstanding, no family member was ready to interfere.
He however said that the husband was not serious with the marriage, despite the fact that he was his client, he was never available for reconciliation.
The husband pleaded with the court to help him save his marriage and promised to change for the better, but the wife insisted on the divorce.
The court tried to fix a day and adjourned the case to the next day for report of settlement, but the wife insisted that her mind was made up for divorce.
The marriage was dissolved and the wife got the custody of the child, while the husband have access to the child any day but at reasonable time.
The wife also requested for N20,000 monthly for the child’s upkeep, but the husband insisted that he could only afford N4,000 monthly, but agreed to provide clothing, healthcare and education. (NAN)
