Morocco, on Tuesday, December 6, advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 after beating Spain 3-0 on penalties at Education City Stadium. It also happened to be the first time that Morocco qualified for the World Cup quarters.
In a fabulous performance, Morocco’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou saved all three penalties from the Spanish side.

Achraf Hakimi scored the winning penalty goal for Morocco. Hakimi was born in Madrid, Spain to Moroccan parents but chose to represent Morocco instead of Spain at national level. He has made not only Morocco but Africa proud by stepping up in what can be said to be the biggest moment of his career so far, to give the African side the victory over Spain.
Abdelhamid Sabiri and Hakim Ziyech also found the back of the net as they scored their penalties as well.
Spain failed to score even a single goal. Since their victory back in 2010, Spain have won three, drawn three and drew five. In the meantime, they have also lost 2 penalty shootouts.
Morocco also finished top of Group F over European giants Belgium and Croatia as well as Canada, with seven points.
History has once again been made at the FIFA World Cup.
