Madina Shehu, Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shehu announced her defection on Thursday in Gusau, the state capital, after a meeting with Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamfara.
According to The Cable, her decision to leave the PDP was based on lack of leadership style in the party.
“I announce my defection to the APC together with women leaders of the PDP in the 14 local government areas of the state,” she said.
While receiving her, Matawalle described her decision as a welcome development for the APC in the state.
“More defectors are coming to APC from PDP. Very soon, we shall receive many PDP members including their leaders,” the governor said.
In another development on Thursday, Matawalle announced a donation of 17 vehicles to the ‘Matawalle/Shehi Amalgamated Mobilisation Group’, a support group working for the governor’s re-election bid.
“Two buses are for the leadership of the group while another bus is donated to the women’s wing of the group,” he said.
“The 14 units of Peugeot 406 Wagon are donated to coordinators of the group in the 14 local government areas of the state.”
The Zamfara governor also urged members of the party to remain united ahead of the 2023 elections in order to secure victory for the APC.
