Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a candidate for governor for the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) in Kano state, expressed optimism that his party will defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming election in the state.
According to history, PRP governed the state during the second republic and set it on the path to progress.
In his Kano palace on Sunday, Yakasai paid respects to Mai Mustapha Lawan, the Mai Kanuribe, the Kanuri traditional ruler of Kano state.

He said, “As far as I am concerned, PRP has no challenge in Kano state. It is APC, PDP, NNPP and other parties that have challenges because they have been in power and people have seen what they have to offer.
“PRP has also been in power in the past, and largely what is been enjoyed here on Kano state in terms of developmental projects are those laid down by PRP.
“So, anybody that is proud of what Kano has become today, owed it to PRP. Unfortunately, subsequent parties have not been able to build on that.
“So by God’s grace we hope that PRP will be in power again come 2023 in Kano state and we will defeat them hands down,” he boasted.
The candidate added that residents of Borno and Yobe, who made up the emirate, had made significant contributions to the growth of Kano state and were the second-largest ethnic group in Kano after the Hausa host community.
In response, the Mai Kanuribe, Mai Mustapha Lawan praised the candidate and vowed to support any politician who would advance the state’s prosperity and growth.
