A former member federal House of Representatives, Hon Halima Hassan Tukur, has encouraged young women seeking knowledge and Political positions to be focused and resilient amid a male-dominated political space.

Addressing members of the Progressive Young Women Forum (PYWF) drawn from the 36 states of the Federation and FCT, Hajiya Halima Tukur, who represented the people of Yauri/Sanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency; from 2007 to 2011, told the young women to be consistent and visible so that their communities would notice their hard work and their enthusiasm.

Recounting the ordeals that culminated in her being the first female Reps member from the Caliphate, nobody would give them tickets or appoint them to party positions or government on a platter of gold.

According to her, ” women have shown commitments and have the capacity to deliver dividends of democracy to the people, but they have not taken their rightful places in politics and governance, but with support of their husbands and mentors, they would be able to attain their aspirations.”

She praised the good work of the National Women Leader, Hon Stella Okotete, for bringing the young women together and equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge provided by the invited resource persons.

The Hon Tukur urged the participants not to relent when they are back to their respective states but to sustain the tempo by recruiting more women into the folds of the party to pave the way for more Political space for the women folks ahead of the 2023 elections.

She concluded by eulogizing her late husband, who stood by her and ensured that she became a force to be reckoned with in the affairs of political space in Kebbi state and Nigeria at large.
