A Jos Upper Area Court sitting at Kasuwan Nama, has sentenced two mechanics 23-year-old Hussaini Abdulahi and 20-year-old Abba Mohammed,  for stealing a laptop and N28,000.

The magistrate, Daniel Damulak  who sentenced the defendants after they pleaded guilty to the offence, however, gave them an option to pay a fine.

Damulak said that for the offense of stealing  they were to pay N30,000 fine each or go to jail for one year.

He said the judgement would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in any criminal act.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the Laranto Police station in  Jos in Jan.3,  by one Yusuf Sanni of Sabon Layi, the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the convicts, with the help of a friend, now at large, attacked the complainant and made away with his laptop and N28,000.

He added that during police investigation, the laptop was recovered from the convicts.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 58 and 271 punishable under section  59  and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
